The Masterton Murder.

('Ey Telegraph.) MASTERTON, June 7. The inquest on the body of Arthur Herbert concluded this evening with a verdict of wilful murder against Andrew J. Somerville. No new facts were elicited. Somerville continues calm and unmoved. Herbert’s remains will be taken to Herbertville, Hawke’s Bay, where he leaves a wife and seven children. June 8’ Somerville came before the Court to

day, charged with the murder of Herbert. No new evidence was adduced. Accused was committed for trial. The prisoner throughout maintained an indifferent aspect, keenly watching the evidence, especially Mcllutcheon’s, who had been talking to Herbert when the fatal shot was fired. WELLINGTON, June 7. Andrew John Somerville, the perpetrator of the crime, was charged at the Masterton Court to-day with wilful murder. Prisoner walked' with a firm step into court, and beyond casting his eyes piercingly into the assembled crowd, seemed to take no interest in the pro- 1 ceedings. Mr Pownell appeared on his behalf. On the application of the police prisoner was remanded till Saturday rnornins.
