THE LICENSING MEETING.

[to the editor.] Sib, —If your reporter has not destroyed his full notes I think a reference to them will bear out the following trivial corrections. I included “ committeemen and inspectors of police” among those who were at loggerheads touching the definition of “ bar.” _ It was another speaker who drew attention to what had taken place at the meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee. Mr Gillies’ second objection was also minuted, namely : “ That an extension of licenses to 11 p.m. was not for the benefit and convenience of the public.” My remarks thereon were : “ That the electors by their votes had made you (the Committee) the judges, and you must use your judgment to the best of your ability.” I frankly admit that I was hardly correct when I stated that committeemen, police, magistrates, lawyers, prohibitionists, and publicans were all at loggerheads over"the “ bar ” question. I am, etc., D, Stuart.
