(Pub Eleotbio Teleqbaph—Gopvbight.)

(Pee Press Association.)

(Received 5.30 p.m., August 15th.) London, August 14. All England have lout S wickets for

378 runs. The following are the scores : Stoddart, b Turner 83 Grace, c Giffen b Trumble 88 Gunn, b Giffen I 8 Shrewsbury, c Graham b Giffen ... 66 A. Ward, c and b Giffen 55 Jackson (not out) ... 49 W. W. Read (not out) 21 Sundries 20 Total for 5 wickets 378 In the early part of the innings the batsmen were thoroughly set, and Trott, McLeod and Bruce were tried in addition to Turner, Giffen, and Trumble. Eventually Turner and Trumble resumed the bowling and effected a separation. The fielding of the team at this time was brilliant, especially that of Graham. Stoddart gave two difficult chances, and was missed when he had scored 5. Neither Grace nor Stoddart were at their ease at the start, and made several fluky hits, but they soon settled down to quiet and stylish cricket. In the first hour only 48 runs were scored, and at the end of ninety minutes' play 100 was registered. Both McLeod and Trott were punished, and after lunch runs came faster, 200 being telegraphed as the result of three hours’ batting. Shrewsbury and Ward started cautiously, and the fielding slackening somewhat, runs continued to come, and Lyons was tried. The desired effect was not gained, and the pair put on 103 runs before Shrewsbury was nicely taken at long on by Graham. Me was batting for two hours and a half, and his score included nine fours. Ward played a vigorous innings, and iu driving Giffen, fell a victim to the bowler, who made a splendid one-handed catch high in the air. Reed is playing very steadily. Jackson played a dashing innings, though Gregory missed him off a high drive when he had scored 35.
