Mr Sidney Buxton, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, stated in the House of Commons that the Imperial Government were awaiting further despatches before deciding on the appointment of Chief Justice Way to the governorship of South Australia. Mr Gladstone declined to promise to introduce next session measures providing for the disestablishment of the Churches of Scotland and Wales. (Special to Press Association.) The Committee of the House of Lords, who have been engaged for some time past taking evidence upon the importation of meat, recommend that imported meat should be branded, the registration of meat-importers made compulsory, and retailers’shops inspected. (Received noon, August 15th.) 1 Replying to a question in the House of Commons, the Premier declined at the present juncture to negotiate with the United States, regarding joint action on the silver question.
