Farewell at the Cave.

Last Friday night about 70 people assemble in the large dining room of tbe Cave Hotel, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs G. Hunter, and to present them with some fitting token of respect before they sever their connection with tbe Gave district.

Mr James Shepherd occupied the chair and worthily he discharged its functions* In presenting Mr Hunter with a handsome gold watch, guard, and albert, he briefly referred to Mr Hunter’s usefulness and tact while chairman of the Gave School Committee and member of tbe Mackenzie County Council. He also presented Mrs Hunter with a silver tea and coffee eervice.

The articles were supplied and suitably inscribed by Messrs Young, of Timarn, and were splendid pieces of workmanship. Mr Hunter in thanking the company for their kind presents said that he could not see what he bad done to merit them. He had only done bis duty and looked for nothing. Hunter, and Mackintosh; “ The Shepherds” by Messrs Armstrong, Woods, and Buobanan j " The Railway Department,” by Messrs Trevalla and Bain; *' Local Industrie!,” by Messrs Wreford and Mahoney ; “ Mining,” by Mr Butberford; “ Tbe Old Folks,” by Messrs Sullivan, Munro, and Irving j “ The Batohe* lore,” by Mr Warden ; “ The Ledies,” by Messrs Stewart and Goodall ; “ Our Host,” by Mr Finch, and *< The Chairman," pro* posed by Mr Hunter. During tbe evening songs and recitations were given by several of those present. Everbody seemed to enjoy the evening, and went home thorooghly satisfied that they bad done their beet to entertain their* guests. Mr and Mrs Hunter left by the train the following morning.
