Geraldine Farmers’ Club.

A meeting of the committee of the Geraldine Farmers’ Club was held on Monday last. Present—Messrs Platman, Allan, Murray, McKenzie, McLeod, Bropby, Wald or, Webster, White, and Winstone (secretary). The proposed rules of the club having been read by the secretary, they were recommended to the general meeting of [members for adoption. The following correspondence was read : From Mr S. T. Trengrove, offering his services as veterinary surgeon to the club.— The secretary was instructed to inform Mr Trengrove that the club had no intention of appointing a veterinary surgeon. From Mr A. E. Gr. Rhodes, ad* vising having forwarded the following Bills: The Noxious Weeds Bill, Land Drainage Bill, Cheviot Estate Disposition Bill, Distress for Bent Abolition Bill, Education Aot Amendment Bill.—lt was resolved that Mr Bhodes’ letter be acknowledged with thanks.

In regard to the Noxious Weeds Bill it was resolved—“ That the member for the district be informed that in the opinion of the Geraldine Farmers’ Club the same will be unworkable and ruinous to the farmers and they hope that he will do his best to prevent it becoming law.” It was resolved : “ That Mr J, Murray be appointed a deputation to the next meeting of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association, in order to draw their attention to the provisions of the Bill; also, that the secretary write to the Christchurch end Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Associations and the Christchurch Chamber of Commerce, drawing thsir attention to the provisions of the Bill and ask them to co-operate with this club in opposing it.” It was decided that the following newspapers be obtained —Mark Lane Express, Veterinary Journal (London), Scientific American, ” Proceedings of the Highland Agricultural Society.” It was resolved : ” That the club’s banking account be opened with the Bank of New Zealand at Geraldine. Messrs Webster and Winstono were authorised to procure the necessary stationery far the club, and Messrs Webster and White the necessary furniture. The secretary was instructed to call a general meeting of members by advertisement in the Timaru herald to be held in Mr Webster’s rooms on Wednesday, 2nd August, for the purpose of passing the rules.
