Wellington Show.

fßv Telegraph.)

WELLINGTON, Nov. 26,

The Wellington Agricultural and Pastoral Association show opened to-day. The weather was fine in the morning, with a strong wind, but during the afternoon a drenching rain set in and still continues, the outlook for tomorrow being very disappointing. To-day was set apart for judging, and only about 1000 were present, including His Excellency the Governor, The entries are more numerous than last year, and the display of live stock and agricultural, produce is said to be the best ever seen in this district, if not in the North Island. There is an especially flue show of prize cattle, exhibitors coming from the west coast of the North Island, Hawke’s Bay, and South. In sheep there are over 110 pens, sent from some of the best flocks in the colony, ranging from Patea in the north to Oaraaru and Taieri in the south. Thoroughbreds are but poorly represented. In purebred shorthorn cattle, the prize for champion bull was taken by Mr John Deans, Biccarton, and for cow by Mr John Boss, Patea. Mr J. Stuckey, of Baugitumau, takes champion prizes for both Hereford bull and-cow. Mr Ales. Douglas, of East Taieri, is the owner of both the champion Ayrshire bull and cow, and he divides with Mr James Little, of Hawarden, for general honours in this class. The championship for merino rams falls to Messrs Goulterßros. (Marlborough), and the championsip in Hampshire dows to Mr Ered Monckton (Fcathereton). Mr A. McKenzie ( Beatherston) takes all the prizes in Shropshire downs, and Mr Alfred Mathews (Peatherston) takes high honours in Eomney Marsh. Mr T. M. Wilford’s Blossom is the champion draught mare. The champion Lincoln rata is one exhibited by Mr J. Bayner (Taratahi), and champion Lincoln ewe by Mr W. Wilson (Wellington).
