AUCKLAND, Cct. 13

A deputation of the Chamber of Commerce waited on Mr Mitchelson to-day and urged that any attempt to secure an extension of time for the Frisco Service should not be allowed to influence the Government. The Postmaster-General promised to use bis best influence with his colleagues in the Government to prevent an extension of time. He remarked that so far the Government had not been approached with a view to obtain such a concession.

The bod; of a Maori has been found in the Waitara river just below the freezing works. He has been missing for ten days, and as he had been in low spirits for some time, it is supposed he committed suicMe. Slow Murder Case-

A Church Choir on Strike

An amusing development of the strike occurred yesterday. In consequence of some dispute with the Primate the choir of St. Paul’s absented themselves morning and evening and most of the singing had to be omitted The action is stated to be a protest against the treatment of Canon Hovell.

Mr Joseph Reid Dodson, bead of the firm of Dodson and Son, brewers, an old, respected citizen died yesterday, aged 78. Ho was first Mayor of Nelson and was re-elected to the position several successive yearsMrs Boor, wife of Dr Leonard Boor, medical superintendent, of the hospital and asylum, died on Saturday after three days illness.

Scalded to Death.

DUNEDIN, Oct. 13,

Bridget Lee, aged two years, was scalded to death at St Hilda, by upsetting a kettle of hot water.
