Grace played a vigorous innings for 57, in which ho gave three chances. W. W. Read scored 90 in brilliant style, not giving a chance until he reached 80. Beyond these two the batting was of a feeble character, the rest of the team making only 16 between them. Turner obtained 3 wickets for 50, and Ferris 6 for 88. Blackham stumped three and caught one. The Australians at the close of the day had lost 7 wickets for 53 ; Lyons 12, Murdoch 6. Blackham (not out) 25. Lohmann and Martin were both in capital form with the ball, and the wicket was slow and rather difficult. Jones and Charlton are not playing.
