ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH. October 30. Consequent upon the fact that there will be no sale next Wednesday at this market, there was a large supply of stock of all kinds. The attendance was also good. SHEEP, Store sheep were an important feature of the sales. All the yards and paddocks allotted to this department were well filled. Prices varied considerably, but tbe following will afford a criterion of the market: —Hoggets fetched from 8s 8d to lla lOd in large lines. Some shorn fetched from 5s to 7s. 4 and 6 tooth shorn crossbreds (mixed) realised up to 9s Id, while those in the wool up to 12s 4d to 13s. A line of merino wethers fetched 10s Id, A very heavy entry of lambs of all kinds sold at various prices np to 12s 9d, according to quality. Over 8000 fat sheep were yarded, a considerable proportion of them being shorn. Amongst these were a good many merinos from North Canterbury. The demand for anything of good quality appeared thoroughly well maintained. One or two lines were sold privately for freezing, and realised fully 2d per lb. Best mutton sold by auction realised a trifle more than this subsequently. , CATTLE. There was a full market of store cattle, principally of 1 and 2-year-olds mixed, and aged cows. Youngsters sold freely at from 15s to 25s for yearlings, and from 30s to 45s for 2-year-olds, according to quality. Cows were somewhat dull of sale, except where the quality was extra good. The yards were better filled with fat cattle than has been the case for some time in consequence of a commission being in the market to buy up to 100 head for southern demands. The tone of the market throughout was greatly improved. The requirements of the commission were not satisfied, as they only secured about 80 head. The average for those sold under the hammer was from 21s to 235. PIGS. The entry was a very small one, and in consequence of bacon curers having discontinued operations, prices were much lower. Light baconers realised 3£d, porkers 4jd. DUNEDIN. October 30. Mr D. Stronach reports for the week ended October 30th, as follows PAT CATTLE. 182 head were yarded, about two thirds good to prime quality, several pens very heavy weights, balance only very medium and light. The demand was fairly active, late rates being fully maintained. Best bullocks brought .£9 5s .to .£lO 17s 6d; extra heavy to <£l2 ss; medium to good, £7 10s to £8 15s ; light and inferior, £3l7s 6d to £6lss; cows in proportion. FAT SHEEP. Only 1511 were penned, about 240 merinos, the rest crossbreds, chiefly wethers, good to prime quality. A good demand for export , hardened the market, every line suitable being taken up at prices showing an advance of from 2s to 2s fid per head on last week’s rate. The trade, in order to secure sufficient for requirements were obliged to compete with spirit. Best crossbred wethers brought 17s 8d to 19s 6d, one or two pens extra prime to 22s fid ; ordinary to good,_ 13s fid to 16s fid ; best crossbred ewes, medium, 15s fid to 18s 9d; ordinary, 12s 9d to 14s fid; merino wethers, 11s 9d to 14s fid. GEAIN. Wheat—The tone of the market shows no improvement, and the position at the moment seems to be less satisfactory than a week ago. Unless considerable advance is obtained on current rates in London further reductions will have to be submitted to before a clearance can bo effected. For fowls’ wheat late rates are unobtainable. Prime milling Tuscan, 3s 4d to 3s sd; best rod straw and velvet, 3s Id to 3s 3d; medium to good (nominal), 2s lOd to 3s: inferior to best fowls’ wheat, 2s 3d to 2s 9d (ex store). Oats—A moderate business passing, and prices on the whole slightly more than maintained. A fair demand for shipment both coastwise and intercolonial. All small lots of grain offering are generally picked up for local consumption. Holders have not been pushing sales, and the market in consequence seems steadier and slowly moving upwards. Prime milling, 2s to 2s Id ; extra heavy, 2s 2dj short bright feed, Is lOd to Is ll|d; medium to good, Is 9d to Is lOd; inferior and musty, la 3d to Is 7d; Danish and black, Is 7d to 2s (ex store, sacks extra). Barley—Stocks are light, but maltsters having supplies for tho season the market is quiet. The few lots offering are difficult to place. Prime malting, 3s 3d to 3s fid; medium to good, 2s 9d to 3s ; feed and milling, 2s 3d to 2s 8d (ex store, sacks extra).
