DUNEDIN, Oct. 31,
The Government do not intend setting up the Friendly Societies Commission as is the opinion of leading members of those organisations, that the step would be premature. The Sweating Commission will comprise two gentlemen in each centre of the colony, who with a permanent chairman will take evidence, the nine meeting hereafter to prepare a report.
Mr Fergus'leaves for Christchurch on Saturday, and on Wednesday goes to Greymouth, accompanied by the Under-Secretary, Mr O'Connor. He intends inspecting the Otago, West Coast and Thames goldfields during the recess.
Lady Onslow wont on to the Lakes via Invercargill this morning,re joining the Governor at Dunedin.
