HEAVY RAINFALL.
A Bridge Carried Away. (By Telegraph.) AUCKLAND, June 11. The rainfall in the Wangarei district has been very heavy, 20 inches having fallen in seven days and nights continuous rain. The bridge across the Wairoa at Ruatatangata has been carried away. Such a rainfall has not happened since 1873 when there were 12 days rain in April of that year. lateb. The weather on the West Coast has been very bad. The Gairloch steamer had a narrow escape haring run into Raglan short of coal, having lost some cattle. The Rowena left Kawhia on Saturday with a barge in tow. Anxiety is felt for her safety.
