Tar Branding Sheep.
(By Telegraph.) NAPIER, June 8, At a largely attended meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society resolutions were unanimously passed protesting against the recent order compelling the tar branding of sheep, and requesting its withdrawal at least as far as Hawke’s Bay is concerned. It was argued that long-wools would need handling every two months, which would put sheepfarmers to great expense, while the result would be a serious deterioration in the value of wool. One farmer, who had branded some and sent the wool homo, said that it brought a Id per pound less than the unbranded wool of the same typo. It was stated that the cause of this now order was that a certain farmer near Addington Saleyards had had his sheep stolen, sold, and removed perhaps to a distant part where they could not be traced. Various speakers pointed out that any farmer who desired to use the tar brand could do so under the Act without an order making it compulsory to all sheep-owners.
