(By Telegraph.) FIELDING, June 8 Dr Johnstone had an arm broken yesterday in a fracas with John Davis, a settler of Kiwitea. Legal proceedings will be taken. WELLINGTON, June 8. Amongst the patents recently applied for in New Zealand is a new plan of constructing breakwaters, groins, sea-walls, and roads through rivers, etc., invented by Mr John Lewthwaite of London, formerly a Taranaki resident. The invention is now being put to a practical use at Deal, and as the cost of the breakwaters is reduced by six-sevenths it is expected to prove both profitable and of great public utility. A syndicate is being formed to purchase the New Zealand rights. DUNEDIN, June 9. At the inquest on the body of James Renton, who was killed by falling from a scaffold at Port Chalmers, a verdict of “ accidental death ” was returned. The evidence showed that he was so much taken up with his work that ho forgot where he was, and stopped over the scaffold. About 110 names were given in on Saturday to the Tailoresses Union which is to bo formed as a result of the meeting on the sweating system. Mr Crawford Anderson received a vote of confidence from the Eaitangata portion of the Bruce electorate.
