SALE OF NORTH CANTERBURY RUNS.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 4

There was a good attendance at the sale of runs to day, tho old Provincial Council Chamber being crowded. The runs were generally rcsecured by tho present holders. In case of those not secured by tho Midland Railway tho competition was keen and holder had to advance considerably on the upset prices. Anama (Hon. W. S. Peters’) rose from £285 to £690. Shepherd’s Bush, from £230 to £520. Alford from £330 to £540. Mount Possession £3OO to £BBO. Double Hill, £I2BO to £l7lO.

Craigieburn, £920 to £1320. (I hose under the Midland Railway Company’s leases did not advance in many cases, as the tenure was only temporary. Several of the old settlers were greeted with applause on securing their holdings at the upset price. The total sale amounted to £19.899. Only two runs were withdrawn ; 23 were sold at the upset price, and 30 at advanced rentals. The commissioner expressed himself greatly satisfied with the sale.
