THE PAYNE FAMILY.

We remind our readers that the clever musical Payne family appear in the Assembly Boom to-morrow evening, and if they meet with equally good patronage here as elsewhere they will have the room crowded. The Otago Daily Times said of their opening perfor-mance-in Dunedin, that 11 this exceptionally talented family more than justified the eulogistic reports that preceded them. Their part singing (unaccompanied) is extraordinarily good, and calls for warmest praise. “ The Bolls ” was tho best vocal item. The performers gave a most clever imitation of the harsh metallic clang and the softer, vibrations of the bolls, and the modulations and the whole management of tho voices was consummately clever. Of the other part songs, the best were the slave melody “ Steal away to Jesus," and the humorous compositions, which comprised very funny sneezing and sobbing songs. The ‘‘Throe little maids from school” trio, from “ Mikado,” has never been sung so well in Dunedin as it was by Misses Lizzie, and Maud Payne last night. Miss Lizzie’s violin solo, “ The Last Rose of Summer,” was treated with a lightness that was rather astonishing. As a violinist Miss Maud has ability, as an executant, wonderful for one so young. Wherever drollery was required, the facial expressions of Messrs Steele and W. J. Payne stood in good stead. The entertainment on the whole was one of peculiar attractiveness.
