GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.

A special greeting of this council was held this morning. MEMBERS PBESENT. Mr Balfour (chairman), and Mosers Mackay, Hayhurst, Moore, Barker, and Howell. The meeting had been called to consider the following business ; SPECIAL OEMBR. In accordance with notice given the following special order was now confirmed, on the motion of Mr Moore seconded by MiBarker : “i hat this council do now strike a special rate in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies Loans A ot of 1886 of l-16thof a Id in tfce S pdaß reusable ptoyprty iatbeWpodbury

water supply district, for the purpose of providing tho interest upon a loan of £SO raised by the Geraldine County Council, under the provisions of the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act 18;6 and Amendment Act 1887, the said rate to be an annual recurring rate for each year commencing from the Ist Jan. and ending the 31st Dec., and to be payable annually in one sum on the Ist of May in each year (for a period of 26 years, until the said loan be paid off), tho first payment to be made on Ist June 1889.” NEW BY LAWS. A draft of new waterworks by-laws was laid on the table, and an alteration made in it was read. The chairman said that he had gone very carefully through them, and was of opinion that they were well and properly drafted. The by-laws were then adopted, and signed by tho chairman, Mr Mackay, and Mr Howell. THBOBABI WATER-RACE. In reply to Mr Barker, the chairman said they had nothing official before the meeting with respeet to the meeting of persons interested in the Orari-Waihi water race, held at Orari Bridge schoolroom on Saturday last. All the chairman knew was that Mr Tripp had sent a long letter to his solicitors at Christchurch, containing numberless conditions or terms on which he would allow the water-race to run through bis land. Ho had received a letter from Mr Tripp, and as it contained matter for the ear of tho members alone, would like council to go into committee on it.
