The Bowing Clubs are arranging a carnival oh Lake Takapuna to-morrow. A. Nidd’s bankruptcy, in connection with the land syndicate, has been annulled, full satisfaction being given for all claims.
Bates on Schools etcWELLINGTON, May 17. The City Council, by the casting vote of the Mayor, declined not to enforce the rates on schools, lodge rooms etc, until after next session. The Destructor. The Destructor is working rather better, but there is apparently more rubbish than it can consume and most of the metal debris has to be a .rted out and put on one side. The crack was apparently caused by tlio settlement which has developed in the chimney stack. Yesterday some cartridges got amongst the rubbish and caused considerable alarm by exploding [and blowing out one of the doors. A Big Bell. The great bell for the post office clock, is a ton-and-a-half in weight, was successfully cast yesterday. It is said to be the largest in the colony. New Plymouth Going Ahead, NEW PLYMOUTH, May 17. Considerable enquiry is being made for laud in the centre of the town. Yesterday a vacant black was sold at £4O a foot for building on.
