Great Fire at Levuka.

AUCKLAND, Apeil 15,

Files of papers by the Wainui contain particulars of an extensive fire at Levuka. Property to the value of about £40,003 wrs destroyed. The following premises were burned : —O. Hennings’, W. Hennings’, Cave and Company’s, D, J. Solomon’s, G. Morran and Company’s, Bank of New Zealand premises, and those of the Mortgage and Agency Company. The strong room of the Bank of New Zealand withstood the heat, and was standing when the fire had spent itself. The insurances are as follows :—Bank of New Zealand, £2500 in the Now Zealand Insurance Company (£1503 reinsured in the South British); Mortgage and Agency Company, office furniture insured in the New Zealand Office for £IBO, loss about £ICO ; D. J. Solomon, in the Transatlantic Company, building for £2OO, goods £150; G. Morran and Company, £IO3O in the South British, and £l5O in the Equitable, £IOOO in the Hamburg Madgobnrg, £2OOO in the TiansAtlantic : H. Cave and Company, £I6OO in the South British, and a like sum in the Transatlantic, £SOO in the Imperial, and £4OO in the Hanseatic. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company are uninsured, and the damage is trifling. The safe and furniture were removed. Mr Garrick’s library was insured in the New Zealand Office for £l5O. Mr W. Henning’s insurances were £203 on the building and £SO on the office furniture in the New Zealand Office.
