London, April 14. Protests against the proposed Tasmanian £1,000,009 inscribed per cent loan are being made on the ground that previous loans have been misappropriated. It is thought that the threat made by the Tasmanian Railway Company in February last, that they would oppose the new loan, and debar quotations being obtained for it, unless they succeeded in making a satisfactory working agreement with the Tasmanian Government, has imperilled the prospects of the loan. Financiers do not approve of so high a minimum as 97 being fixed for the loan. Mr O. E. N. Braddon, the Agent-General for Tasmania, in letters to The Times says that he is prepared to prove that the ground of the protests, that former loans have been misappropriated, is quite without foundation. * THE COPPER TROUBLE. Messrs Mason and Barry (limited), the pyrites merchants, of Cannon streat, London, have commenced proceedings against the Sociele des Meteaux. Competent authorities declare that it is impossible to frame resolutions restricting the production of copper.
