CHRISTCHURCH. April 13,

William Pinching, formerly chemist at Kaiapoi, died in the lock-up at Waiau last evening. He was arrested at 4 o’clock on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences. His wife went with a constable to see him and found him unconscious and making a gurgling noise. Ho never recovered consciousness, dying at 5,30. He is supposed to have committed suicide.

DUNEDIN, April 13

David Cutter, a blacksmith, 40 years of age, living at South Dunedin, attempted suicide by shooting himself with a revolver. He had been drinking heavily lately. There is little likelihood of his recovery.
