CRICKET.

ZEALANDIA V. WOOLLEN FACTORY,

The return match between the employees of the Timaru Woollen Factory and an eleven from the Zealandia Cricket Club, took place at the. South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club’s ground (courteously placed at disposal by the Timaru Cricket Club), on Saturday afternoon. 'Jhe day was again fine, and an excellent wicket was provided. Macintosh having won the toss, elected to wield the willow, and with Williams faced the bowling of Walmsley and Swallow. Runs came quickly, aud before Macintosh was caught grandly at point by Walmsley, ho had got 20 by free hard hitting. Kruse was the next to make a stand, getting 10 runs with very careful play, before he was taken at the wickets by Wood. Cameron was the only other one to get into double figures, a drive to the pavilion for 4 being his best effort. Brown knocked up 9 with nice cricket, and the innings closed for 73. The wicket did not suit Walrasley’s bowling, which was punished considerably, and Swallow was not in his best form. Wood handled the gloves very creditably, and with the exception of Walmsley, Renton’s and Swallow’s fielding was about the best. For the Factory, I the game opened rather badly, Renton, a careful and pretty bat, snicking one from Williams on to his off stump before the telegraph got to work. Walmsley then came in and leather hunting began in earnest. Having the good luck to be missed in the long field when he had scored 10, he played up grandly, and had made 30 when he was dismissed leg before wicket, off Kruse. Among his score were several four hits, clean to long field and square leg. Ible got 16 with hard hitting all over the field, and Mirfield soon ran his score to 10, having the hard luck to see his partner dismissed just when he was getting his eye in properly. Williams’ bowling was a good deal knocked about, as was also Macintosh’s in the early and middle part of the game. The fielding was very satisfactory, two neat catches at point and mid-on by Cameron and Rice respectively, being made. Roper kept wickets in good style, and “ backing up ” was carefully looked to. The Zealandia played out time, four wickets being down for 27 runs, of which number Macintosh got 16, by very hard hitting. The game resulted in another win for the Factory, on the first innings, by nine runs. The scores made were as follows : The Factoey.
