ACCIDENT TO HIS BALLOON. (Bv Telegraph.) DUNEDIN, Jan, 20. A tremendous crowd gathered on the Caledonian grounds on Saturday to witness the balloon ascent and parachute descent by Professor Baldwin. A stiff breeze was blowing up the bay during the afternoon from the N.E., and as 5.30, the hour appointed, approached, the breeze increased in force. At 6.30 it was announced that if the wind wont down tho professor would stiff make his ascent, but the wind, which usually lulls,

piped up stronger than ever aid people began to disperse. About 8 o’clock the balloon, which had been inflated for about 2 hours, gave way, being split almost from lop to bottom. This put an end to eU chance of an ascent on that occasion, grrAly to the disappointment of the spectators, many of whom were from the country.
