(Pbb Pbebb Ass.o.chtiok.) . Fire. Wellington, July 1. A fire broke out at 1.30 this morning in the Preserving Department of the Gear Meat preserving Company's building. It was completely gutted. The fire is supposed to have originated by the heal from one of the boilers setting fire to the woodwork. A short time ago the same building was found on fire from the same cause. Tbe insurance and amount of damage is not yet known. Later. Tbe total insurance on the building, plant, stock and fittings of the Gear Meat Preserving Works is £3388. The amount of damage has not yet been estimated. - Customs Duties* Christchurch, July 1. The Customs duties collected at Christchurch last month amounted to £21,361 as against £13,845 for the previous month of June. The beer duty was respectively £756 and £729.
