At the Auckland Police Court on Saturday, John Adams, licensee of the Swan Hotel, and one of the principals in the recent “ lambing down” case, was fined £2O and costs, for supplying: liquor to Thomas Joseph Franks (the other principal) whilst in a stated intoxication. The Congregational Sunday School Anniversary services held yesterday, were conducted by the superintendent, Mr Haggett, and in the course of the proceedings, the Bev. P. Seth-Smith delivered a graphic and telling discourse on the raising to life by the Saviour of the daughter of Jairus. the ruler of the Synagogue, described in St, Luke’s Gospel, chapter 8. There was a large attendance, and the service was deeply interesting. At a meeting held In Wanganui on Saturday, it was resolved to request the Council of the New Zealand Rifle Association to hold their next meeting in Wanganui. An exceptionally good programme has been prepared for this evening’s concert in aid of St. Mary’s Church Sunday school prize fund, several highly attractive pieces being set down. As this is the case, and the object is a good one, a large attendance may confidently be expected.
