[By Telegraph.] Auckland, June 20. Canvassing is actively going on in the* various electorates, and it is understood every seat will be contested. In the Newton district alone, 500 have been placed on the roll during the last few days, Napier, June 20. Captain Russell contests the Hawked Bay seat with Mr Sutton. Mr Tanner will fight Waipawa against; Mr Smith. Mr Ormond is the only candidate yett announced for Napier, but it is expected! Mr Sheehan or Mr Buchanan will contest the seat with him. Wellington, Jane 20* Mr J. Whitely King, a journalist, contests New Plymouth against Mr Thomas Kelly. Mr Charles Johnston seeks re-eleotion for the Te Aro electorate. Christchurch, June 20. Mr John Holmes again stands for Christchurch South. Mr F. J. Garrick lias definitely determined on contesting St. Albans. Mr J. Lowthian Wilson, it is understood, has expressed his willingness to stand for Kaiapoi.

It is rumoured tha Kir Julius Vog«t will stand for Christchurch North. June 21.

Invercargill, June 21. The election fever has seized the people in this district and the registration of voters is going on on all sides. Every seat will be contested and there are indications that the struggle will be very keen. For Invercargill, in addition to the present member (Mr Feldwick), Mr J. Hatch (who opposed him last election), Mr J. Kingsland (ex-Mayor) Mr P. L. McDonald (Borough Councillor), Mr J. W. Mitchell (ex-mayor), and Mr W. Y» H. Hall (solicitor) are announced. They will probably come out in the Conaervatire interest, and if so an effort will be made to select one from the number, so as not to split the votes, but it is doubtful if Mr Hatch would agree to that, preferring to lake his chance with the crowd. Fer Hokonui (Mr Driver’s seat) Mr James Gardner (run. holder), Mr G. McLeod (farmer and exsohoolmaaler), MrT. Green (auctioneer), Mr Cuthbert Coir and Mr J. W. Bain are spoken of. As to Mr Driver’s intentions nothing is known locally. For Awarua (represented by Mr Joyce) Mr T. M. Macdonald, solicitor, has been asked to stand, but has declined. Mr J. T, Thompson, late Surveyor-General, waa likely to come forward, but is now suffering from a severe illness. Mr J. Lnmsden, who forcacr’y represented Invercargill, has been spoken of for that seat, and Hokonui also, but nothing definite has been made public. For Wallace Mr Daniel will probably have as opponents Mr H. Hirst, Dr Hodgkinsod, Mr J. Mackintosh, and Mr J. W. Hamilton. For Mataura Captain Mackenzie, will likely bo opposed by Mr G. F. Eichardson.
