(Received June 10, 1884, 8.30 p.m.) The Bank Bobbery. Melbourne, June 10. The reporis which have been circulated regarding the bank robbery case at Horsham have been ascertained to be incorrect. Smallpox. Considerable excitement has been caused here by three reported oases of small-pox at Malvern and Prahran, and which partially confirmed suspicion re tho disease which caused the death at the Sanatorium of the the man Barker was smallpox, although the medical officers considered his case doubtful. Oriental Bank. The Oriental Bank case concluded today, when Judge Moleeworth decided that tho colonial affairs of the corporation should be wound up locally under the Companies Statute. The Victorian Parliament was opened to-day by His Excolloucy Sir William Stawell, who in hisjspeech on tho occasion us Acting-Governor, after recording tho universal regret which was felt
at the death of the late Prince Leopold, referred at length to tho recent Intercolonial Convention, and recapitulated various matters which came under discussion, Tho Speech announced that the minutes of the proceedings at the Convention would be laid before Parliament, and stated with reference to the recidivisto question that if unfortunately the protests of the Convention, the diplomatic action of the Imperial Government, and tho increasing exertions of His Excellency’s Advisers should prove ineffectual, bis Advisers would bo prepared to take steps such as tho threatened danger might necessitate,and in this view it was proposed to constitute a Council of Defence. The Speech expressed gratification at the success of the International Exhibition lately held at Calcutta. It referred to the abundant harvest, and affirmed the promising prospects and condition of the colony at tho present time. Bills were announced for the amendment of the land laws, for the further extension of tho railway system, for the amendment of laws relating to banking, and for the constitution of a Metropolitan Board of Works for the City of Melbourne.
'Received June 11,1881,1.10 a.m.] No ConfidenceAdelaide, June 10. In the House of Assembly this evening, Mr Colton moved a vote of want of confidence in the Government. The House then adjourned. ChickenpoxMelbourne, June 10. Tho medical officer declares that the cases at Malvern are of chickenpox and not of smallpox. GrainTho Melbourne Manager of tho National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited), reports on the local grain market as follows : Wheat, 4s 2d to 4s 3d, market depressed; malting barley is steady at 4s 3d to 4s lOd ; New Zealand oats, feeding sorts, are quiet at 2s lOd to 3s Id ; milling do, are steady at 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; New Zealand oats under bond, 2s 6d to 2s Bd. The market is quieter.
