At the inquest on the child Stirling, the evidence of the mother was that she gave the child to her six-year-old daughter, to nurse, while she went and tidied up a shed iu the back yard. On her return, after an absence of 10 minutes, she found the baby’s clothes on fire, and nearly all burnt. She dressed the child’s burns, but medical advice was not obtained. The jury returned an open verdict, and acting on their recommendation, the Coroner cautioned the mother for her inhuman and unmotherly conduct, informing her that had there been much more evidence, there would probably bare been a verdict of manslaughter against her.
