SACRED CONCERT.

Another sacred concert was given last evening in the Trinity Presbyterian Church, by the choir and several musical friends. The attendance was quite below the merits of the entertainment; and this occasioned some surprise, as the previous concert a few months ago was very much appreciated' Mr Bilton accompanied with his invariable good taste and helpfulness, and the principal soloists wore Mrs Waters, Mrs Cowan, Mrs Anderson, Miss Innes, Miss

Gutbbert, and Mr Bilton. Mr Martin was to have sung the solo in the fine but seldom heard anthem “ Tell it out among the heathen,” hnt in his absence owing to a severe cold, Mr Bilton rendered it in excellent style. Mrs Waters rendering of “As thy day is, so is thy strength” was decidedly her best effort in Timaru and was a very fine piece of singing. Miss Innes’ rich sympathetic voice was not heard to as good advantage as at the former concert, her pieces not being so well-chosen. At the next concert we should like to hear this lady repeat “He was despised” which she sang with grand effect on the former occasion. The solos of the other ladies were given very effectively and showed that good natural gifts had been carefully trained. The anthems were sung with heartiness. At the close of the performance the Eev. Mr Gillies thanked those present for their attendance, and announced that the collection had realised £5.
