The Chamber of Commerce at its meeting to-day passed a resolution expressing the deepest regret and indignation at the dilatorinesa of the Ministry re sending a vessel to search for the missing seamen on the Auckland isles, and agreed that failing immediate action on the part of Government a steamer should he at once chartered and despatched, the cost to he defrayed by public subscription, £630 was guaranteed at the meeting. Hugh Flanagan, a patient in the Christchurch Hospital, who cut his throat with a penknife during the absence of the nurse last night died this morning. Masonic FuneralAshburton, Dec. 13. The funeral of Mr Dawson, late of Fielding, took place yesterday at Waterloo. The attendance of settlers and friends of the deceased was very large. Members of the Masonic fraternity attended in large numbers and the deceased was buried with the usual Masonic rites, the W.M. of the Somerset Lodge E.C., conducting the ceremony. Stealing a ChildAt the City Police Court to-day Jan Simson, auctioneer at Gore, was charged with stealing the infant child of Dr MacOaffer. As the child had been restored to its father, the information was dismissed. Larceny from a WifeEobt McPherson was charged with larceny of the property of his wife, who has a protection order, Mr Carew, the Resident Magistrate, held that the wife could not give evidence in a case of felony against her husband. He dismissed the case.
