(Fan Press Association.) THIS SAY. Death Under Peculiar Circumstances* Wellington, Dec. 11. An elderly woman named Hamlin died at the hospital under peculiar circumstances last night. She is a resident of Stokes' Valley, Upper Hutt, and on the 30th ult, when entering her house a lad fired a gun. There was no shot in the gun, but the powder lodged in her left arm above the wrist. Amputation of the hand was necessary, but the poor old lady succumbed under the operation. She was 70 years of age. It is not yet known nnder what circumstances the gun was fired. The police have gone out to make enquiries. Supreme Court; Blenheim, Dec. 11. The Supreme Court sessions opened this morning. The only criminal case was the croton oil case. Tho Grand Jury found true bills against two of tho four defendants. The trial will proceed this afternoon. Interprovincial Rifle Match. Ddnedin, Dec. 11. The following have been selected to practice for tho [nterprovincial match: — Austin, Cooke, Oollinson, Davenport, Dixon, Frith, Fleming, Fitzgerald, Harris, Horne, Henderson, Mallard, Macneil McLennan, Rattray, Rose, Sketch and Sontag.
