The Oamaru Amateur Opera Company intend playing the “Pirates of Penzance,” in the Theatre Royal on Friday evening in aid of the funds of Mechanics’ Institute. The Company intended at first to play for the Hospital, but the scheme fell through, and it has been now decided as announced, to devote any surplus proceeds to the Mechanics’ Institute, The Company, which numbers sixty performers, will arrive here on Friday afternoon by special train, and return immmediately after the performance. The short notice is unavoidable as several members of the Company are leaving for the North Island next week. As the visitors come at their own risk and represent a neighboring town, it is hardly necessary to bespeak for them a bumper house and a friendly reception.
