FIRES IN CHRISTCHUCH.
[By Telegbaph.] CHBisTCinracH, May 18. Three nine-roomed houses belonging toE. andW. Hall, carpenters. Pound Hoad, Sydenham, were burnt at 4 a.m. to-day. The cause of, the fire is not knowm The houses were insured as follows-In the Standard £9OO, Union £3OO, Norwich Union, £BOO, Nbrthern £2OO. The Halls lived in one of the houses. The furniture was insured in the New Zealand office for £4OO. ■* Another was occupied by Kelly, the . furniture being insured in the National office lor £3OO. The third house was empty. The fire began in Hall’s kitchen!. J. T. Brown’s sawmill, near the Gasworks, Sydenham, was bared _ down about the same time. It was insured in the. New Zealand : office for £750. The origin is not known.
