An Unfortunate Bankrupt. Wellington, March 21.
A meeting of creditors in the estate of Henry Mace was held to-day. The liabilities are £15,142, and the assets £23,493, as filed. T. K. McDonald and James Kirton were appointed trustees. Considerable sympathy was expressed for the insolvent, whose losses were attributed to land speculation. It was unanimously resolved to allow him to retain his household furniture and effects. Deputationising the MajorCheistchuech, March 21. Several deputations interviewed the Hon. Major Atkinson this morning, ineluding one from the City Council, applying for the old Provincial Council Chamber and offices for city purposes. Major Atkinson promised to submit the matter to the consideration of, the Government. Sir Modred ScratchedSir Modred was scratched for the Great Autmn Handicap at five minutes past 12 to-day. At the Magistrates’ Court this morn: ing, the charge of stabbing, against Edward Clarkson proved a trumpery affair and was dismissed.
