FIJIAN NEWS.
[Bt Tbleoeaph.j Auckland, August 11. The s.s. Taiaroa, from Fiji, brings the following items of news : A. 0. Stoddart, formerly of Auckland, has been sentenced to three years' penal servitude for forging a cheque on the Bank of Now Zealand. Two Fijians have been tried for the murder of an islander recruit on board the Taiaui, in a quarrel over a cocoanut. One wob sentenced to ten years’ penal servitude and the other was discharged.
Sir A. Gordon arrived at Lovuka via Tonga in H.M.S Miranda, on July 9.
