Heavy rain has been falling for two or three days. It is clearing up now. Total Wreck of the AustralindWellington, July 29. A telegram from Now Plymouth states that the barque Australind is a total wreck. She has not broken up and everything aloft is standing. Yesterday she drove further ashore and carried away the end of the harbor works jetty. Her cable and anchors have gone. There is 7ft. of water in her hold, and 500 casks of cement are damaged. Arrest. A young man named Hugh Clark was arrested to-day . on a charge of having stolen jewellery to the value of £l6, from a house he was lodging in.

Mr Garrard, gunsmith, Victoria street, was shooting rabbits in the Waimakiriri river bed yesterday, when a grain of shot, from the gun of one of the party, glanced off a rock, and struck Garrard in the eye, and completely destroyed the sight. The eye wan subsequently removed. Fickle Minded Electors* It will be remembered that Mr Pilliet was elected for Stanmore a few weeks v ago with a great flourish of trumpets and by a large majority. It is now stated that the electors of Stanmore purpose burning Mr Pilliet in effigy. Fixing an Informer. Dunedin, July 29. At the City Police Court to-day William Jones, who turned informer against Williamson and Aherne for the recent burglaries, was committed for trial on three charges. .
