PROTESTANT ALLIANCE.
The members of the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society, Victoria Lodge No. 57, held their usual fortnightly meeting last Wednesday evening, in the Oddfellows’ Hail, Sophia street.
The principal business of the evening was to receive the Auditors’ report for the last quarter, and the installation of officers for the ensuing term. The Auditors’ report showed a substantial balance in Bank in favor of the Lodge, thus testifying to the rapid growth and excelhnt management of this Lodge in the past. The report as read was deemed highly satisfactory by the members present. At the installation of officers Past Master Bro. J. M. Shepherd officiated in his usujil efficient manner, and installed Bro. (Goddard Jackson as Master ; Bro. Francis Blackwell, Deputy Master ; Bro. William Ingram, Secretary ; and Bro. Adam Mahon, Treasurer (re-elected). The W.M., on taking the chair, in a neat and well-chosen speech paid a handsome compliment to the retiring Master, Bro, Kent, for his energy, zeal, and indefatigable efforts on behalf of the Lodge, and referred to the large increase of members since his taking office, which testified to the vigilance with which he had looked after its interests.
Bro. Kent, in replying, thanked the Master and members for their mark of appreciation of his efforts, stating that the success of the Lodge was to a great measure due to the united efforts of the officers and brethren. He also offered some pertinent remarks and healthful advice to the members to keep up that spirit of harmony aud brotherly love hitherto prevailing amongst them, which was the only sure means of success, and that, with the efficient staff of officers just installed, would, he was certain, ensure a very large influx of members during the term of office just entered upon.
After some routine business, and the nomination of a number of candidates for membership, the Lodge was closed in due form.
