TIMARU HARBOUR BOARD.
A special meeting of the above Board was held yesterday, to consider whether the proposed dues on shipping should be enforced or not. The question was discussed at considerable length, opinions being pretty equally divided for and against the proposed levying of port dues. Later on a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce waited on the meeting, and stated that the Chamber was of,opinion that the levying of the dues would prove most injurious to the port, which at the present time could offer no corresponding advantages. The matter should be postponed until the formation of the Breakwater was further advanced. After some further discussion, the Board resolved that in consequence of the sparse attendance ot members, further consideration of the question.of levying port dues in Timaru be postponed until the next meeting of the Board.
