TIMARU HARMONIC SOCIETY’S CHRISTMAS CONCERT.
Lovers of high-class music had a treat provided for them at the Mechanic’s Institute last evening, which they doubtless enjoyed. Timaru is essentially a musical city; consequently, as might have been expected, a large and critical audience assembled The programme opened with Mozart’s sublime Twelfth Mass, which was rendered in a way that reflects great credit upon the performers, who executed the more difficult passages with an ease and precision that many professional artistes might have envied. The second part of the programme comprised several beautiful sacred solos and choruses, mostly taken from wellknown oratorios. Mr Ziesler yielded the conductor’s baton most efficiently, and the deep silence which reigned in the hall during the performance sufficiently testified to the appreciation of the audience.
