TIMARU BOROUGH SCHOOL.

The children of the Timaru Borough School broke up for the Christmas holidays to-day. The ceremony took place on the lawn in front of the school at 3 o’clock p.m., and attracted a largo number of visitors in addition to the children themselves. The distribution of prizes was then held. It had been hoped that Mr Belfleld would have been present to have given the prizes away, but that gentleman being unavoidably absent, Mr Hammond olileiated in his place. The prizes, consisting of handsome volumes of both useful and entertaining works, and a large number of elegant articles, were placed on a table in front of the Chairman, who referred to the pleasing duty he had to perform, and accompanied each gift with some appropriate remark. The proceedings were much enjoyed by the young people, some of whom will give a miscellaneous entertainment at the Mechanics’ Institute this evening.
