WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Waimato Borough Council was held at the Council Chambers last evening. Present the Mayor Crs. Middleton, Goldsmith, Cameron, Price, Hayes, Evans, Sherwiu, Gascoyne and Black. The Auditor-General’s award was read, showing that the Borough was entitled to the sum of £1941 9s 6d, and six per cent, from such portion of the £IOO,OOO now due to County Councils as the County may receive ; also, 27 acres of reserves within the boundary of the borough. A lengthy discussion took place with regard to the charges in Mr Irving’s account, in which several councillors took part, and expressed dissatisfaction at the feeble defence brought forward by the Council at the Resident Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last when judgment was given for plaintiff.

Cr. Sherwin moved, and Cr. Hayes seconded, “ That the Finance Committee be instructed to take such'steps as they may think fit to protect the interests of the Council in re Irving v. Borough Council, and that no further monies be paid without consulting the said Committee.”—Carried. A letter was read from the Crown Lands Department asking the Council to name what portion of section 1266 they wished laid aside for literary purposes. Moved by Cr. Price, and seconded by Cr. Evans, “ That a plan of section 1266 showing the buildings thereon, be forwarded as requested; also that the Council get the grants of land already awarded (vested in the borough at once.” —Carried.

It was moved by Cr Black, and seconded bj r Cr Hayes, “ That this Council respectfully request the Waimatc County Council to hand over the plan of this borough as prepared by their engineer, and plan of streets for formation, now lying in their office, to the Borough Council.” Carried. Moved by Cr. Goldsmith and seconded by Cr. Middleton—“ That the Government be asked to allow the quarteracre section No. 105 part of .Reserve 1266 in Borough of Waimatc for the Public Library site and the Clerk be authorised to send tracing of same.” Carried.
