TIMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
TOWN EDITION.
An ordinary meeting took place last evening in the Council Chambers. Present, his Worship the Mayor and Crs. Greenup, Gibson, Shepherd, Jones, Bruce, and Gabites. The correspondence read included the following;— From Mr (T. M. H. Johnston, applying for the appointment of Engineer to the Council,
It was decided to inform Mr Johnston that the Council is not at present in a position to engage an Engineer. From T. J. Kennedy, applying for leave to erect a poster hoarding on the Market reserve. Bcfused.
From Mr Duval, architect, applying for a slight modification of the building regulations in the construction of the Albion Hotel. It was resolved to grant the application. From Mr Zieslcr, Secretary to the Gas Company, requesting the council to make some provision for the diversion of storm water, to prevent damage by Hoods.
From the contractor for the stacking of the water-pipes, stating that owing to the long time occupied in discharging the ship, together with her absence for about a month, he had lost £3O by his contract, and requested to be allowed something extra on that account. The Works Committee’s report was read and adopted. J. Kolm’s tender for cutting and stacking hay from the reserve paddock at 20s per acre was accepted.
Accounts to the amount of £3BB 7s Dd were passed for payment.
Eolativc to the Waterworks Loan the following resolutions were passed : —“ That the Council deeming it advisable to complete the Timaru and Farcora Waterworks scheme, and having in their possession a report from a competent Waterworks Engineer that such completion will cost £60,000, the Council therefore instruct the Town Clerk to have the notice as drafted by the Borough Solicitor, and dated Bth December, 1879, advertised at once, in compliance with the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act.”—“That the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare a special roll, for the purpose of taking the vote on the proposal to borrow the sum of £60,000 sterling, as a special loan to complete the Timaru and Pareora Waterworks scheme, in compliance with clause 5 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1876, Amendment Act, 1877.”
It was resolved, that notice be given to Mr Price, the owner of section 86, Sophia street, of the Council’sjintention of entering upon same for the purpose of constructing a drain.” The consideration of the encroachment of the Ship hotel property was postponed to the next meeting, The meeting then terminated.
