Coolies 4281 and 5077 pleaded not guilty to a charge ot stealing a pig, the property oi a Samoan. The two accused were caught red* handed, catching the pig and placing it in a sack. The Samoans alleged that other pigs the property ot their village were penned in at the coolie quarters ; these the Samoans released. The coolies, who alleged that the pigs were their own, had made contra.Hctory statements in which they implicated each other in the aftair. Both accused were convicted and sentenced to one mouth's imprisonment. Tetete, who had been in custody for a week, pleaded not guilty to assault on Willie Schroeder, at Malie. Defendant alleged he acted in self-defence. Schroeder denied that he made any attack on the Samoan, and this was corroborated by another witness. Defendant admitted he usud his fist on Schroeder, the row originating from a dog fight between, these two men's dogs.
