CALF PALiADE

-On Dec. 14th- the Wa.\by School held its annual Calf Clul) parade. The calves, seven in number, were in good condition, and their docile behaviour showed evidence of gentle handling and careful feeding. Mr PI. M. Neal, of Port Albert, who judged the calves, placed them it) the following order : — Jersey section —Nancy McKae 1, NolaMcPherson 2, Leslie Johnson 3. Shorthorn section—Sydney Grant 1, Pam Grant '2, Nyal Grant 3, Donald Worsnop highly commended. Having finished the work of judging, Mr Neal had one of the calves brought forward and then carefully explained, step by step.Sthe method to be followed in judging a calf. Notes were taken, and afterwards when another calf was brought forward, the children had an. opportunity of trying their skill in judging. This competition proved very interesting, and some of the results were highly creditable. Mr VV. It. Grant, the chairman of the school committee, thanked Mr Neal for his help so willingly given. In addressing, the children Mr Grant expressed his pleasure at the way they bad cared for their eaLyes. "Continuing, he remarked that he hoped they would never lose their enthusiasm,.'but- that they would continue to maintain a lively interest in the activities of the calf club.
