CALLOSITIES
Callosities or hard skin on the soles of the feet are most irritating companions. They always arise from wearing boots too unyielding in the soles and which are generally too narrow to wear. In such circumstances the skin of the under surface <rf the foot is thrown into wrinkles, and they must necessarily bear the brunt of the friction walking. Hence they are irritated and thickened. It is useless, therefora, to attempt to cure until the cause has been removed .and properlyfitting footgear obtained. Then, the hardest piece s should be pared off from the tops of the ridges and the following ointment applied: Salicylic acid, one drachm; hard Paraffine Ointment, four drachms. This should be spread over pieces of lint and applied to the part. Needless to say it will cause more discomfort just af first, but it will soon soften the hardened skin, which oan then be easily peeled off, and the .ointment reapplied at intervals until the cure is brought about.
