PRICE OF TIMBER.
INCREASE AUTHORISED The Board of Trade advises thq.t authority has recently been given to Auckland and Waikato sawmillers and timber merchants to increase the prices of timber by amounts rangiug from 2s per 100 for o b. classes to 3s fid per 100 for first class kauri. These prices, it is explained, are necessitated on account of the increase in wages recently awarded by the court to sawmill workers in these districts, evidence having been the Board that the increases in price are justified on account of the additional costs incurred as a result of the increase in wages. The increase granted by the board is said to : be merely sufficient- to cover the recent additional increase in wages and does not allow for increased profits tc the sawmillers.
