Wanganui Hospital Board has decided to have Taihape Hospital made a training school for nurses. The death has occurred at Manaia of Mr R B Hair, who was forborne time manager of the Bank of Aus - tralasia at Taihape. Mr J P Aldridge, of Taihape, has been nominated for the vacant seat on Wanganni Kdnoatioii Board.

At Tiriraukawa last week, two young men named A Mickleson and James Tborpe were rather badly burned owing to an explosion of benzine. Thoy were engaged filling a lamp with benzine by the light of a candle, when there was a sudden explosion and their clothing caught fire. Assistance was at once given by Mr Mickleson, sen, who removed the burning clothing as quickly as possible and summoned medical assistance. The injuries of both men wore dressed and the sufferers were conveyed to Taihape Hospiial, where they are making good progress The hockey competitions for the season have been commenced. In the ladies' competition, Old Girls defeated School Girls by lour goals to one. "Pakeha and Rovers met in the men's compe-itioa, the result being a draw, each side scoring two goals. The secoud of the series of winter socials under the auspices of the Returned Soldiers' Association was attendee by about 45 couples and was a success in every way.

The death occurred at Rnanui Hospital on Friday of Mrs J D Harris, a well known resident of Taihape, at tho age of 36 years. About J 62 head of stock were impounded in the Borough poond last month, and as the stock of some owners have been impounded with much frequency, there is a suspicion that the owners rind it cheaper to pay the pound charges than to pay for grazing. The Borough has decided that such offenders will in future be prosecuted, and the full penalty asked for. Favourable consideration is given by the Borough Council iu the request of a deputation which has asked that portion of the recreation ground be set apart for the laying out of bowling greens and croquet lawns. Two young men were preparing a car for a trip to Wanganui oarly on Saturday morning. One of tnem was pouring benzine into the tank and the other was examining another part of the car by the light of a match, when the car became enveloped in flames. The vehicle was soon got outside into the street, where a tin of benzine stored in th e hood exploded. Tho Fire Brigade arrived and extinguished the flames, after the car had been damaged to the extent of about £6O.

The Department of Labour has notified Taihape Borough Council that tenders will shortly be called for erection of workers' dwellings throughout New Zealand, [and Taihape will then reosive consideration with reference to the six dweflngs allocated. The Department of Agriculture has advised the Council that it is willing to agree to the exchange of land suggested, some time ago, in order that the area at present held by the Department may be used for erection of workers'' homes.

The matter of a memorial to soldiers who lost Sheir lives in the war waa represented to the Borough Conncil by Or Davien at a meeting on Friday night. The Mayor said he would call another public meeting, bat it was nothing short of a disgrace that "no one had attended the meetings which had previously been called. It w»s very distressing that something had not been done, especially as the returned soldiers had found it i-eceasary to make a move in the matter.

Taihape Pirates Rugby team visited Wanganni on Saturday and played a game against Wanganni Old" Boys Taihape played with great combination throughout, and defeated Wanganni by twelve points to nil. In the evening, both teams were entertained by Wanganni Rugby Union,
