SHIPMENT OF PRODUCE.

Per Presa Association. Palmerston N, June 22 At the National Dairy Association Conference to-day, Mr Forsyth, Bltbam, moved: “That this meeting is of opinion that the time has arrived when the Dominion producers together with the Government, should have a controlling influence in a fleet for the carnage of produce; that it be a recommendation to the executive to co-operate with the South Island Dairy Association, also wool, meat and other producers, to approach the Government with a view to getting financial assistance or legislation providing for a levy on all exports to provide funds for the purpose of obtaining an assured reliable shipping service and reasonable freights or establishing an independent shipping line if such should become necessary. The question was keenly debated, some speakers arguing against wbafc was thought to be the introduction of the principle of an export tax. Eventually the motion was altered to devise a scheme being substituted providing for a levy on all exports.

MEAT PRICES

NOT LIKELY TO FALL. Palmerston N, June 22 Mr W D Powdrell, M.P., Hawera, stated that in his capacity as chairman of a freezing company, he recently received a cable from the. Continent offering a much higher price. A similar offer by America was not allowed by the Imperial Government. He had also received enquiries for a certain class of beef at enhanced prices. T?his indicated that prices of meat would not fall when the Imperial agreemnet terminated. He urged the necessity for dairymen pressing for pro rata space in meat ships.
