ALLEGED BREACHES OF REGULATIONS. -Per Press Association. Duneclin, Jane 10 In the Supreme Oourt, before Mr Justice Surf to-day, A. Steven and Co. were sued by the Crown for penalties for alleged breach of regulations in respect to sale of wheat. Mr W C McGregor, K.C, appeared for the Crown and Mr Skerrett, K.C, and Mr A, S. Adams for defendants, A. Stevens and Co. and William Josiah Love The statement of claim set forth that Love is a large shareholder, also managing director of the defendant company, personally controlling the Company's business and personally responsible for the wholesale buying and selling of grain. The maximum price was fixed on 25th February, 1919, in an order in Council for all wheat grown in Nbw Zealand, such order remaining in force, the rate for free wheat infeiior in quality and good milling wheat being 6s 8d par bushel After last October the defendants sold large quantities of such wheat at prices exceeding 0s Bd, the excess prices ranging from 7a 6d to 8s 6d The alleged offeuces were the sale of 889 bushels at 7s «d to Mr Hutchinson, Auckland, 167 to same firm at Ba, 336 to same at 8s 31, 167 at 8s 6d to Roach's, Hastings, 345 at 8s 6d to A S Paterson, Wellington, to same firm 38 at 8s Od, to Birch and Co, Wellington, 333 at 8s 6d, jto Laery and Co, Wellington, same price, and to Loan and Mercantile Co., Wellington, 841 at 7s 3d and 798 at 7s 6:1, A penalty of £SOO is claimed in respect to each offence.
