SUICIDE AT PAEKAKARIKI.

Per Press Association. Information was received by the Superintendent of Police on Wednesday that a man named Thomas Morley, a railway employee (a line erector) at Paekakariki, had committed suicide by shooting himself with a pea-rifle. The deceased lived in a railway hut at Paekakariki. An inquest on the body was held at Paekakariki by Mr W G Riddell, S.M. Another line erector who v/as living with deceased, stated, in his evidence, that at 6.40 a.m. on Tnesday he left deceased in bed after giving him a cup of tea. Morley said he would be going into town that day, Dut would be back at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. When the witness returned at 3 p.m. he found Morley lying dead in bed with a bullet wound in his head and u Winchester rifle beside him. He stated that the deceased was of a jolly disposition and had never given any indication of his intention to commit suicide. Morley, who was 44 years of age, had no relations in New Zealand, having arrived Iron. Home eight years ago. His wife had remained in England, and she was now residing at Nottingham. When deceased received n letter from her he became a little depressed. A veraict was returned that the deceased committed suicide on the 25fch inst. by shooting himself through the head with a bullet from a Winchester rifle.
